Brunel Racing's Management Team

Brunel Racing is managed by a group of 6 final year Motorsport Engineering students, with a little help from various academics at the university.

All our team managers are in their 5th years at Brunel studying for MEng degrees in Motorsport Engineering, and will be graduating in summer 2011. They all have a year's previous experience with Brunel Racing.

Design Team Principal - James Spencer

James completed a 12 month industrial placement in 2008-09 working at Jaguar Land Rover, Gaydon. He worked as a  fuel systems development engineer working in the testing and evaluation of new products and technologies for the company.

As a member of the 2009-10 Brunel Racing team, James was responsible for the fuel tank on BR-XI. Later in the season he contributed towards the car build.

As Design Team Principal, James is relishing the opportunity to lead Brunel Racing all the way to the Formula Student competitions in summer 2010.

 

 

Test Team Principal - James Luetchford

James was an integral member of the 2009-10 Brunel Racing team, writing his 3rd year dissertation on the design and optimisation of the sidepods for BR-XI. He contributed heavily towards the build of BR-XI.

James Completed a year in industry working as a Design Engineer at Supacat. 

Building on his experience with Formula Student, as well as academic success, and personal interests, James now manages Brunel Racing's Testing Team.

 

 

Chassis Manager - Dave Walker

In 2008-09, Dave completed a year's placement at Alstom in Switzerland, working in component failure analysis.

Dave was a member of Brunel Racing in 2009-10, assisting in the design of the chassis for BR-XI. He also was also an ever present member of the team during build and testing of BR-XI.

His experience with the design of the BR-XI chassis, and materials testing has lead to his appointment as chassis manager.

 

 Unsprung Manager - Ben Van den Bos

Ben completed a 12 month industrial placement in 2008-09 working at Renault F1, Enstone. He worked in R&D and was in charge of sensor calibration for various rig testing from static to 7 post testing.

Ben was a member of the 2009-10 Brunel Racing team, he designed the suspension system for BR-XI. Ben Is a very useful member of the team with knowledge in car setup, built from experience racing in the Mighty Mini race series. 

 

 

Rob Murton - Driver Controls & Ergonomics Manager 

Rob was part of the 2009-10 BR-XI team, developing a very successful gear shift system. Rob was also an integral member of the team throughout the build, with the ability to manufacture parts to a with fine tolerances at a very high standard.  

 

 

Powertrain Manager - Matt Carey

Matt undertook an industrial placement between 2008 and 2009, working as a vehicle integrations engineer in whole vehicle at Bentley in Crewe. His role included monitoring testing and highlighting issues to senior management for resolution.

His previous FS experience includes the design and manufacture of the intake manifold for the 2009-10 team, contributing towards the pre-event build.
