Team FacilitiesBrunel Racing operate from a dedicated motorsport workshop in Brunel University's School of Engineering and Design, which the team shares with Brunel's postgraduate team, Brunel Masters Motorsport. As well as the space and equipment afforded to the team, we are also able to rely on our own technician, Gerald Clifford, whose wealth of knowledge and experience of the engineering world has proved invaluable to the team on so many occasions.
The workshop contains all the basic tools needed to assist the team with building and preparing its cars, however some more specialised tasks rely on facilities in other parts of the university. Engine TestingBrunel Racing are lucky enough to have a dedicated water-brake dynamometer in the school's engine test lab. This dyno has been used by the team for years to experiment with its race engines, as well as to develop and fine-tune parts such as the engine intake and the ECU map. Later in 2008 the team will take delivery of a full chassis dynamometer (rolling road), which will be available for testing of the 2009 car, development of the 2008 car and also for the postgraduate team. Parts ManufactureAs part of the university's support for the team, Brunel Racing also have at their disposal the main machine workshop, staffed by a team of highly skilled and experienced machine operators. Most parts can be produced in-house by these technicians, using a variety of machines from simple lathes to CNC machines linked directly to CAD models of parts. Brunel Racing are very grateful to the technicians at the machine shop for every year somehow managing to fit all of our manufacturing needs into their busy schedules! |
